St. Michael School Interim Principal
Location: Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic School
Job Posting: Interim Principal Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000 based on experience and credentials.
Job Description:
Saint Michael Catholic School seeks a dedicated and faith-filled individual to serve as the spiritual, educational, and managerial leader of our school. Ideal candidates will have the option to be considered for an ongoing appointment as Principal. The Interim Principal is responsible for strengthening and deepening the school's Catholic mission, working in collaboration with and under the guidance of the Pastor for the ministerial aims of fostering a strong faith community, while ensuring academic excellence. This role includes overseeing faculty, staff, students, and school operations in alignment with diocesan guidelines and policies. The Interim Principal works closely with the Pastor for faith formation goals for the whole school community. He or she also works in partnership with the Department for Catholic Education for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois to implement the vision of Catholic Schools as outlined in the pastoral letter, “Higher Calling, Higher Standards.”
Key Responsibilities Catholic Leadership ● Uphold and promote the philosophy and mission of Catholic education. ● Serve as a role model of Gospel values and Catholic teachings. ● Foster Catholic identity through faith formation and Christian service. ● Support staff in their personal and professional faith development. ● Promote the Bishop’s vision for Catholic Schools.
Administration & Operations ● Overseed daily school operations, ensuring a positive and effective learning environment. ● Manage hiring, evaluation, and professional development of faculty and staff. ● Ensure compliance with diocesan policies as well as state educational guidelines. ● Develop and manage the school budget, overseeing expenditures. ● Maintain essential records for staff, students, and programs. ● Implement policies for health, safety, and emergency preparedness. ● Develop and maintain school calendars and schedules.
Leadership & Reporting Structure ● The Interim Principal collaborates closely with and reports directly to the Pastor, who serves as the spiritual leader. ● The Interim Principal oversees daily operations of the school under the responsibility and direction of the Pastor.
Academic Excellence ● Ensure a comprehensive and effective curriculum through diverse teaching strategies. ● Supervise instruction and assess academic program effectiveness. ● Provide faculty with necessary instructional materials and professional development. ● Oversee periodic evaluation of curriculum, textbooks, and educational resources. ● Implement the Catholic Religion curriculum to strengthen the faith of all students. Community Engagement & Relationships ● Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school, fostering positive relationships with students, parents, parish, and the wider community. ● Work collaboratively with the School Advisory Council, providing regular updates. ● Promote parental involvement in school activities and maintain open communication. ● Mediate concerns between parents and teachers when necessary. ● Represent the school at diocesan and local community events. ● Support fundraising efforts and communicate the school’s mission and goals effectively
Qualifications:
Education & Experience ● Master’s Degree in Educational Administration (or currently pursuing completion). ● 3–5 years of relevant experience in education leadership preferred.
Skills & Characteristics ● Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church. ● Strong knowledge of Catholic teachings and values. ● Enthusiasm for implementing authentic hallmarks of Catholic education as articulated in “Higher Calling, Higher Standards.” ● Expertise in curriculum development, instructional methods, and assessment strategies. ● Excellent oral and written communication skills. ● Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. ● Ability to work collaboratively and interact effectively with diverse groups. ● Proficiency in relevant technology systems. ● High level of professionalism, courtesy, kindness, confidentiality, and integrity.
