From Struggling to Soaring: Scaffolding Success in Reading: Word Recognition (K-3)

Learning to read is a complex process that requires the seamless integration of word recognition and language comprehension. In this session, we will explore how children develop reading proficiency and examine evidence-based instructional routines that support students at every stage of their literacy journey. Participants will gain practical strategies to scaffold success in both foundational word recognition skills, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding, and language comprehension, including vocabulary development, background knowledge, and language structures. Through engaging activities and structured routines, educators will leave with tools to enhance instruction, foster student confidence, and bridge the gap between struggling and soaring readers in the K-3 classroom.
This training will be held online on February 17, 2027 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The cost to attend this training is $20. Each participant will receive 1.5 PD hours. A link to join the training will be sent out prior to February 17th.
