Science of Reading: From Foundations to Classroom Practice
Feb 19, 2026
9:00 am - 2:30 pm
Vandalia, IL 62471
This full-day session grounds participants in the essential models, frameworks, and pillars of the Science of Reading, with a strong focus on Illinois’ state literacy plan and why it matters for schools. We will connect foundational concepts to classroom practice by examining phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, mapping most common words, vocabulary, and fluency. Practical tools such as curriculum checklists will support implementation, and participants will have time to collaborate, share best practices, and address common challenges together.
This training will be held on February 19, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the ROE #3 Professional Development Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost to attend this training is $150/person and lunch will be provided. Each participant will receive 5.0 PD hours upon completion of the training.
