Join the ISBE Multilingual / Language Development Department to learn about programming for English Learners (ELs). The topics covered during this event will be appropriate for all districts. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session; district staff are welcome to join both sessions or only one.   

 

The morning session will focus on the following topics:

- Compliance monitoring and how school districts can use self-evaluation tools to ensure EL programming meets state and federal requirements 

- EL Licensure requirements for both administrators and teachers, as well as licensing options and different pathways to licensure 

- EL programming, including the implementation and growth of effective EL programs 

 

 In the afternoon, the focus will be on the following topics: 

- Tools and procedures required to identify and serve EL students

- How school districts can support newcomer students and their families 

- Requirements and strategies for communicating with parents 

 

At the end of both sessions, you will have time to meet with ISBE staff about your district-specific questions and needs.

 

This training will be held on October 15, 2025 at the ROE #3 Professional Development Center. You will have the option to sign up for the morning session (8:30 - 11:30) and/or the afternoon session (12:00 - 3:00). Registration for the morning session will begin at 8:00 a.m. and registration for the afternoon session will begin at 11:30 a.m. If you are staying for both session the ROE will be providing lunch in between the session. The lunch fee is $15/person. Each person will receive 3.0 PD hours for each session.
