Reimagining Math Instruction: Building Student-Centered Classrooms
Oct 1, 2025
8:30 am - 11:30 am
"Are you looking for ways to engage students more deeply in mathematics? This 3-hour virtual session will explore how shifting from teacher-centered instruction to a student-centered approach creates opportunities for richer mathematical learning. Together, we’ll examine what it takes to build a strong mathematical community, experience tasks and routines that promote meaningful student discourse, and reflect on current practices. You’ll leave with practical strategies and small, actionable steps to increase student voice and ownership in your math classroom."
Student-centered math is an instructional approach that focuses on the needs, interests, and abilities of students in the learning process. Instead of a traditional teacher-led model, where the teacher directs all learning, student-centered math encourages students to explore, question, and engage with mathematical concepts through hands-on activities, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world applications.
