The IMSE Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus: 3 Day Virtual 18 hour Course is a hands-on, interactive class that provides an understanding of IMSE’s enhanced Orton-Gillingham and the knowledge and tools necessary to apply it in the classroom through IMSE’s foundational reading skills curriculum for students performing at a Preschool-Kindergarten or very early Grade 1 level.

This course contains content for the following concepts: basic consonant and short vowel sounds; common digraphs; the “-ss,-ll,-ff,-zz” spelling rule; compound words; long vowel sounds spelled with the vowels “a, e, i, o, and u”; and syllable division for the first two syllable types (Closed and Open) and patterns (VC/CV and V/CV). Participants are provided with a prerequisite video that discusses course supplies. Reading assignments include information regarding the structure and foundation of the English language and the research that comprises the science of reading, RTI, and dyslexia.

After completing the live, virtual course, teachers will be able to assess and teach students in the areas of phonological skills, phonics/word recognition, spelling, and writing. The curriculum materials and training provided in the course will equip teachers to implement IMSE’s foundational reading skills curriculum, grounded in the principles of Structured Literacy, in all instructional tiers. The Comprehensive OG Plus 3 Day Course: is appropriate for teachers whose students are emergent and beginning readers, as well as readers struggling with word recognition.

This course is appropriate for Preschool-Kindergarten and early Grade 1 general and special education teachers, literacy coaches, interventionists and beyond whose students require instruction in word-recognition skills (e.g., phonology, decoding, spelling). This course can also be taken by any educator who wants to learn more about instruction in phonology and orthography.
